I lied because I told you you would only get 4 posts a year, and this is a bonus post. It is not fall yet… BUT, something HUGE has happened and we need to talk about it!
Today is River of Mariposas publishing day!!!
Part of me still can’t believe I am a published author! And certainly not a published author of TWO books. Yet here we are, and I feel so grateful to my lucky stars that I get to do what I LOVE for a living, and to all of you for your heartwarming support.
River of Mariposas is a story of perseverance and wonder. It’s a colorful and heartfelt story about the hard work we put into achieving our dreams, the unexpected bumps on the road… and the way those bumps sometimes lead to things 10 times better to what we could have imagined.
I was inspired by my memories of a hurricane that diverted the migration of thousands of butterflies through my hometown near Veracruz, Mexico. The book follows a young girl that dreams of the land’s historic mariposas amarillas and is determined to re-create their glory, even if her butterflies are made of paper. But when nature thwarts her plans, life, magic, and yes, even the rain, bring something more beautiful than she ever could have crafted!
The book is set in Veracruz, it has some Spanish words peppered throughout (AND, has an illustrated key at the end for those words you might not know!) and it is heavily inspired by the architecture of one of my favorite Pueblos Mágicos of México: Tlacotalpan. I am so proud of the artwork I created for this story! Here is one of my favorite spreads in the book!
Some helpful links!

And, if you’re in the LA area, you can drop by and listen to me read the book (and even craft a lovely butterfly!) with me at the following…
